Perspectives staff gathers for Network Day

On August 10th, the entire Perspectives staff gathered at the Calumet campus for Network Day, a biannual tradition to unite staff members from all five Perspectives campuses around our common mission.  Full-group sessions in the morning focused on our history, our goals, and our performance in the past year.  In the afternoon, staff members attended breakout sessions based on their roles, with topics including the A Disciplined Life(c) curriculum and data-tracking.  The day left teachers, school leaders, and the rest of the staff energized for the new school year!

Perspectives holds College Sendoff BBQs

On July 27th and 28th, we celebrated our alumni who are about to begin their freshman year of college with College Sendoff Days at our Joslin and Calumet campuses.  Dozens of students from each campus gathered to connect with their peers one last time before heading off to college.  Overall, more than 90% of Perspectives graduates were accepted to college this year. Most of them will be the first in their families to attend college!

View student presentations from this year’s Annual College for Certain Annual Benefit!

Thank you everyone who supported this year’s Annual College for Certain Benefit on March 31st. With your help and with the generous leadership of our co-chairs Tony Anderson, Jim Reynolds and James Bell we exceeded last year’s net fund raising by more than $40,000!

Thank you also to the three students who represented the Perspectives network at the benefit. Seniors Stephanie Caldwell of Perspectives High School of Technology, King Robinson of Perspectives Leadership Academy and Genesis Galan of our Rodney D. Joslin campus made inspiring presentations to almost 300 guests that evening, telling our story of staff and student hard work, dedication, A Disciplined Life, and more!

Perspectives Middle Academy “Goes for the Gold”

To fulfill the A Disciplined Life principle - Live a Healthy Lifestyle, Perspectives Middle Academy (PMA) 6th graders worked with a chef from Chefs in the Classroom to learn about nutrition; taste testing foods to categorize them into food groups and learning how to make fruit parfaits! Their work is just one aspect of their application for the USDA's Gold Award of Distinction that is sponsored by the Healthier US Schools Challenge and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation's Healthy Schools. Perspectives is committed to rise to the challenge of US First Lady Michelle Obama to “Go for the Gold” by initiating in-school programming that will help reverse obesity and increase healthy eating and fitness.

Perspectives Leadership Academy scholars are hard at work applying to summer programs that will enhance their successful applications to college. Thanks to the generosity of the Field Museum and Ernst & Young, two other PLA scholars will travel to Kenya and Madagascar this summer and assist Chap Kusimba, a Field Study anthropologist, in anthropologic studies.
